Knickerbiker Holiday Party, 2009

11 December, 2009
Lois hosted the 2009 Knickerbiker Holiday Party. The party was at the Mira Mesa Library. Lois, library.... Me thinks there is a connection there, and it is not just alliteration. Thanks much Lois.

Eating is important to Knickerbikers. Most of the food had not arrived but there was enough to get started, and we did.
Nick washed his plate of food down with the beer of the Islands, Primo.

Joan...
... and Dick.

Another Joan

Turn about is fair play.

Hmmm... Looks like Nick went to Europe for his next refreshment
Gail and Mike
Lois and Judith

Cindy and Lois
Will announces the winner of the Golden Tire Iron Award. This goes to the person who performs the cleverest bit of maintenance on a bicycle during a ride. There being no particularly clever maintenance performed this past year the award was expanded to include other forms of maintenance.
The award goes to nurse Joi for performing maintenance on someone's body during a ride. Unfortunately Joi is not present to receive the award.
After dinner and awards it is time to exchange gifts.
Which one to choose?
Choice made, Judith unwraps to see what her choice has brought her.
Ahhh, an insulated bike bottle, just like one she already has.
Dee looks very happy with a bicycle card holder.
Merle picked a small one. Good things come in small packages he said.
He is pleased with a gift card to Performance Bicycle. "How much is it worth?" lots of people wanted to know. He didn't know. Someone must have thought it was enough , because he didn't have it long.
Sandra has a nice shopping bag with a bicycle on it.
Forrest finds a bike bag in the gift bag he chose. Oh, not a bag to protect a bike from the elements, a bag to wrap a gift bike.
There were a couple of other items in the gift bag as well, some bike tools but no bike to go with the wrapping bag.
Larry picks a small package too. Good things come in small packages.
This small package contains two inner tubes.

John, Diane, & Will look on while Susan makes a selection.
Susan doesn't go for a small package.
She went for the biggest one there.
A kitchen mat with a bicycle.
John's gift is a book in a nice metal case.
Robert opens a pretty little tin.
Inside is a book mark. How appropriate for the guy who has been known to lead us all to a library so he could pick up a book.
Nick opens his choice ...
... a bicycle. Well not quite full size.
Oops, there goes Susan's mat.
Susan is unwraps another gift.
A box of Tiger's Milk,
whatever that is.
Sure looks like Susan likes it.
Joi shows up after work in time to receive her award ...
... and in time to choose a gift.
Larry opens his gift.
It's a bicycle tire pressure pump, just like the one he already has.
Ron picks a gift. He's pretty sure he knows what it is.
Yep, a nice bottle of wine with a bicycle on the label.
Gail comes to check it out.
Will opens a gift. Can it be another bottle of wine.
It sure is ...
... and there is a bicycle on the label.
Here's Merle again. He must have lost that gift card. What is it this time? With Ken's help he identifies ...
... a seat post.
Susan picks a gift.
It's a smokeless candle. Hmm .... Does that mean it's battery powered?
Cousin Judith comes up for another gift. someone must have taken that insulated water battle. She takes a peak at this gift then heads out, not wanting to show it. Must be highly desirable.
Sandra unwraps ...
... a bicycle ornament.
Richard with another bottle of wine with a bicycle on the label. Popular items this year, bicycle wines.
Ken takes Larry's pressure gage ...
... so Larry gets another choice.
Cool Brainteasers.
Good choice for Larry.
Ken announces the availability of a few other items while Robert looks on. These are a safe riding booklet from the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. Robert is the Knickerbiker representative to the Coalition.
Ron snags the Richard Ballantine/ Richard Grant Bicycle Book.
With the food all gone, the awards awarded, and all the gifts given and freebies handed out it is time to clean up and go home. Knickerbikers are early to bed and early to rise in order to be ready for the next day's ride.

Thanks again to Lois for hosting this party and thanks to all who set up, tore down brought food to enjoy and gifts to exchange. It made for a fun holiday party.
